Today I have three tips to help you get your home to closing. It's that time of year and I think you'll be needing this advice. I hope you can use it to your own benefit!

  1. Don't ruin the deal over the principal. There is a lot of money and emotion involved in a transaction, and if someone rubs you the wrong way, don't let it destroy your home sale. Stay calm and professional, and keep your eyes on the prize.
  2. Focus on what really needs to be corrected. The home inspection is supposed to focus on the entire property, so if something is wrong or broken in any way, that is your chance to speak with your Realtor in order to correct the problems. Granted, there are things that you could fix yourself like nail holes or dirty blinds, but you should not have to fix a broken furnace or leaky plumbing by yourself.
  3. Sellers, Inspectors, and Realtors are all people too. Remember that everyone involved is able and willing to communicate with you. Communication is key to closing the home, so don't hold back from expressing your concerns. Voicing your opinion to your agent can be extremely helpful in smoothing out problems during the closing period.
